The Jacksonville Fire Department paid tribute to one of its veteran fire officers last month (March) when Deputy Chief George H. Fulton (right) retired at the mandatory age of 65 on March 21. Chief Fulton missed completing 44 years with the
Jacksonville Fire Department by 10 days. He joined the department on April 1, 1924. Chief Fulton was honored for his years of outstanding service as a fire fighter and fire
department executive in ceremonies in the office of Jacksonville Mayor Hans G. Tanzler, Jr. (center), who serves as Fire Commissioner as well as Mayor. Attending the ceremonies paying tribute to Chief Fulton was Jacksonville Fire Chief W.
A. Jackson (left). Chief Fulton was promoted to Lieutenant on September 1, 1937; to Captain on April 16, 1944; Assistant Chief on September 16, 1949 and Deputy Chief on January 3, 1966.

1967 Fire Department Metro Dade Florida South Miami Merger

The men of South Miami Fire Department muster together for the last time as the merger of the department with that of the Metro Dade County Department is made official November 7, 1966. Six experienced aerial ladder operators join them as their unit is transferred to the South Miami station from the Metro Department. Looking
on are: Mayor Taylor of the City; County Commissioner Earl Siarnes; Vice Mayor Ed Bramson; Councilman Dick Doyle; and Councilwoman Jean Willis. City Manager's office is represented by Roland Eastwood, South Miami, and Assistant County Manager John Green.
Assistant Chief Don Hickman of the Miami Fire Department is congratulated by Chief Lester Schick, president of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. The occasion took place at the installation of officers for the Dade County Chief Fire Officers Association. Chief Hickman is presented a check of $250 by Chief Schick, representing a scholarship won by Chief Hickman in competition with Fire Chiefs throughout the nation. Looking on are the newly elected
The newly elected President of the Dade County Fire Officers Association, Chief M. Q. Bullock of the Metro Dade County Department, presents a plaque in recognition of the services to immediate past president, Chief Norman Thomson of the Hialeah Fire Department. The elected officers were installed at a banquet on November 10, 1966, by Dade County Mayor Chuck Hall.
