Wie Wien schützt seine ImmobilienVergleichsweise amerikanischen Feuerwehren sind sehr jung, in einigen Gemeinden solche Organisationen werden nun zum ersten Mal gebildet, während diejenigen, die in der Lage, ihre Geschichte zurückzuverfolgen sind 100 Jahre alten und nicht das Gefühl in firemanic Annalen. Doch zurück im Jahre 1685 der Stadt Wien, Österreich, hatte bereits seine professionelle Feuerwehr organisiert derzeit die älteste derartige Organisation in der gesamten europäischen Kontinent betrachtet.Da es gebildet wurde, war der Sitz immer in der alten historischen Gebäude Am Hot՜ 9 / 10, Wien 1, und es ist auf dem gleichen Gelände befindet sich dort auch heute noch.Einige Zeit um 1785 oder 100 Jahre, nachdem er die Abteilung wurde gegründet, erhielt Uniformen. Der erste Feueralarm Telegraphen-System wurde im Jahre 1854 gegründet, als gab es 120 bezahlte Feuerwehrleute. Acht Jahre später, zusätzlich zu den Hauptsitz Gebäude wurden Vorstadt Feuerwachen eingeführt. Damals gab es wurden 287 Feuerwehrleute mit 142 Pferden. Der erste Feueralarm-Boxen erschienen im Jahr 1878 und im selben Jahr in Wien gekauft ihren ersten Dampfer.Als der berühmte Ring Theater im Jahre 1881 durch einen Brand zerstört und mehr als 600 Personen ums Leben kamen, gab es nur zwei Dampfer in der ganzen Stadt. Hand Löschfahrzeuge waren bis so spät wie 1895 oder 36 Jahre alt werden.Einführung der ersten AerialDie erste Drehleiter-Lkw mit Druckluftbehälter wurde im Jahr 1899 verwendet. Damals gab es sechs Dampfer in Dienst hatte eine überraschend kleine Zahl bedenkt, dass ausreichend Hydranten in alle Teile der Stadt wurden seit 1853 installiert. In 1872 wurde die erste Hochdruck-Wasser-SystemChef Anton Wagner(Branddireldor)in der Stadt und in den Suburbs gegen eine hohe Feuer-Losswurde in Betrieb genommen, die verschiedenen Risiken in Wien zu schützen.Der erste Motor angetrieben chemischen Auto war im Jahre 1903 eingesetzt und drei Jahre später das Hauptquartier sowie die Feuerwache Simmering erhielt komplette Kfz-Ausrüstung, bestehend aus elektrisch angetriebenen chemischen Apparatebau, Leiter Lkw, Dampfern und Autos für die Offiziere. Die erste Benzin-Pumper wurden zu Beginn des Weltkrieges eingeführt. Bis 1920 gab es 107 motorisierte Einheiten und nur dreizehn Pferd angetrieben Gerät in der Abteilung.Zu dieser Zeit gab es vierzehn Stationen in der Stadt besetzt durch bezahlte Feuerwehrleute während in den äußeren Bezirken Wiens gab es 45 Freiwilligen Feuerwehren mit mehr als 1.500 Männer in der Hauptsache zur Verfügung gestellt, mit Pferd angetriebene Gerät.Moderne Geräte gekauftIm Jahr 1924 Branddirektor Ing. Anton Wagner wurde zum Chef der Feuerwehr. Er sofort ein Programm eingeweiht Modernisierung zu ersetzen die alten elektrisch angetriebenen und Pferd angetriebene Vorrichtung durch motorisierte Einheiten, die Freiwilligen Feuerwehren in den Vororten abzuschaffen und eine moderne Brandmeldeanlage installiert.Nur die Dampfer wurden abgeschafft, während die elektrisch angetriebene Gerät wurde von modernen Apparate ersetzt worden. Fünfzig Stücke wurden umgesetzt und 130 moderne Einheiten wurden gekauft. Bis Ende 1930 gab es wurden 183 motorisierte Einheiten, von denen vierzig wurden Pumper.Derzeit gibt es aber sieben freiwilligen Feuerwehr in ländlichen Wohngebieten und sie erhalten ihre Befehle aus dem Hauptquartier.Die Zahl der Feuerwehr-Stationen haben sich erhöht. Es gibt jetzt eine Headquarters Building, sechs wichtigsten Stationen und 25 kleinere Feuerwehren in der Stadt.Es gibt sechzig Mann vom Dienst zu jeder Zeit in den Headquarters Building, 22 in der Chef-Stationen und elf Männer in den kleineren Häusern. Die Zwei-Zug-Plan wurde in der Zeit von 1919/20 gegründet.In der Zentrale Station gibt es untergebracht ist, zwei Offiziere "Zwei Beispiele für moderne Wiener Feuerwache ArchitekturLeft-Dieses Haus wurde während der Reorganisation der Feuerwehr, 1925-30 eröffnet. Es ist eine S-Bahnstation Gehäuse one engine Unternehmen mit elf Männern und zwei Stücke von Feuerlöschgeräten. Mit der rechten Maustaste weitere Feuerwache eröffnet im gleichen Zeitraum und die Häuser ein Unternehmen mit zwei Apparate zur Verfügung gestellt und mit einem Kompliment von elf Männern.Autos, zwei Stadt Service-Trucks, zwei chemische Triebwerke, die von Booster-Tanks ausgestattet Apparat, zwei Magirus und Metz 111-Fuß-Drehleitern, sechs Pumper neben Sonderausstattung ersetzt wurden. Jeder Leiter der Station hat man Offiziere Auto, eine chemische oder Booster-Kesselwagen, einer Stadt Service-Truck, ein Magirus Drehleiter, ein Löschfahrzeug und einige spezielle Geräte. Die kleineren Stationen haben eine chemische Auto oder Booster-Kesselwagen neben einer motorisierten Pumper. Ein paar der kleineren Stationen haben drei Apparate, eine Drehleiter mit chemischen Triebwerk, einer Stadt, Service-Truck und einem Löschfahrzeug.Die laufende Karte ist so angeordnet, dass für jeden Alarm aus dem Innenteil gibt es reagieren muss, mindestens, eine Offiziers-Auto mit Rettungs-Geräte und die Durchführung Schlauch, der Landrat, der Kapitän und acht Feuerwehrleute ausgestattet, einer Stadt Dienstwagen, eine chemische Auto oder ein Auto mit einem Booster-Tank, eine Drehleiter LKW und dem Löschfahrzeug der nächstgelegenen Bahnhof. Etwa zwanzig Feuerwehrleute in allen antworten oder genug zu strecken die notwendigen Schlauchleitungen, weitermachen Bergungsarbeiten und verwenden das Leben net. Für Kaminfeuer, Pinsel-, Automobil-Brände und Alarme von verdächtigen Rauch verursacht, nur ein chemisches AutoDrei Arten von Geräten im Einsatz in WienUpper-In jedem der 32 Feuerwachen der Großraum Wien gibt es einen Benzin-Löschfahrzeug der dargestellten Art in der Lage mit 110 gpm bei etwa 60 Pfund Druck. Die Pumpe ist vor dem Kühler. Center-Spezial Notfall Auto mit einem elektrischen Generator und Kabeltrommel für den Einsatz der beiden kleinen "Diving Pumps" auf der Rückseite des Fahrzeugs befinden. Lower-Special Rettungswagen, die für Unfälle im Wasser verwendet wird.oder einen Booster Kesselwagen geschickt. Die kleineren Notfällen Arbeit wird durch eine Stadt, Service-Truck, die alle Not Werkzeuge und Geräte führt durchgeführt. Wo menschliches Leben in Gefahr, als bei einem Gebäude, das durch eine Explosion zerstört worden ist, muss der Offiziere "Auto der nächsten Chef-Station den Anruf auch. Doch in vielen dieser Fälle ist ein spezieller Aufruf an die Zentrale für den Notfall LKW-, Rettungs-Wagen oder Zerstörung Gerät gesendet.Es gibt auch die "Volunteer Ambulance Gesellschaft / ', die erforderlich, um solche Alarme zu beantworten ist. Es hat Rettungswagen mit medizinischer Ausrüstung und bemannt mit voll bezahlt Chirurgen. Der Feueralarm Hauptsitz in der zweiten Etage der zentralen Feuerwache und Laufe des Jahres 1927 liegt -9 war es mit allen Instrumenten in der amerikanischen Brandmeldezentrale gefundenen Sender zur Verfügung gestellt. Die chemischen Apparate-und Booster-Tanks haben ein Fassungsvermögen von etwa 125 Gallonen, die in der Regel ausreichend für den normalen Bränden. Der Booster-Pumpen sind nicht durch den Antriebsmotor, sondern durch ein spezielles 20-30 PS-Motor betrieben. Diese speziellen Booster Pumpen können durch vier oder sogar zwei Mann getragen werden und stellte in der Nähe Brunnen in den ländlichen Bereichen oder wo Wasser zu finden ist.Die Wiener Feuerwehr hat vierzehn spezielle kleine Pumpen, zwei elektrisch betrieben und zwölf von Benzin-Motoren betrieben. Wo Wasser aus großen Tiefen erarbeitet werden soll, werden diese Pumpen in das Wasser gesenkt. Die sieben Freiwilligen Unternehmen sind mit diesen speziellen Motor Pumper ausgestattet, wie sie ideal für den ländlichen Dienst in den Städten und Dörfern außerhalb der Stadt sind.In dem ältesten Teil der Stadt, sind Kellern oft zwei vor fünf Stockwerke tief. Smoky Keller Brände sind daher von großer Gefahr für die Feuerwehrleute und erhebliche Arbeit.Daher ist neben dem Sortiment von Sauerstoff Helmen und Atemschutzmasken hat die Abteilung ein spezielles Rettungs-Lkw mit zwei großen Tanks, die in der Lage, Luft zu fünf oder sechs Rauch-Helm Luft Versorgungsleitungen ausgestattet sind. Jeder Mensch in der Abteilung, vom Chef ab, ist ein Nichtraucherhotel Maske seiner eigenen.Eine besondere Schule befindet sich im zweistöckigen tiefen Keller des Central Fire Station gegründet. Hier dichten, rauchigen Feuer fing, so dass die Feuerwehrleute ma} werden bei der Bekämpfung der rauchigen lodert erlebt. COMPARATIVELY speaking American Fire Departments are very young—in some communities such organizations are now being formed for the first time, while those that are able to trace their history back one hundred years feel rather ancient in firemanic annals. Yet back in 1685 the city of Vienna, Austria, had already organized its professional Fire Department, at present considered the oldest such organization throughout the continent of Europe.
Since it was formed, the headquarters was always in the old historical building Am Hot՜ 9/10, Vienna 1, and it is located on the same site there even today.
Some time about 1785, or one hundred years after it was formed the department received uniforms. The first fire alarm telegraph system was established in 1854 when there were 120 paid firemen. Eight years later, in addition to the headquarters building, suburban fire stations were introduced. At that time there were 287 firemen with 142 horses. The first fire alarm boxes appeared in 1878 and in the same year Vienna purchased its first steamer.
When the famous Ring Theatre was destroyed in 1881 by fire, and more than six hundred persons lost their lives, there were only two steamers in the whole city. Hand fire engines were used until as late a date as 1895 or thirty-six years ago.
Introduction of First Aerial
The first aerial ladder truck with compressed air tanks was used in 1899. At that time there were six steamers in service, a surprisingly small number considering that sufficient fire hydrants had been installed in all parts of the city since 1853. In 1872 the first high pressure water system

was placed in service to protect the various risks in Vienna.
The first motor driven chemical car was used in 1903 and three years later the headquarters as well as the Simmering Fire Station received complete automobile equipment consisting of electric-driven chemical apparatus, ladder trucks, steamers and cars for the officers. The first gasoline pumpers were introduced at the beginning of the World War. By 1920 there were 107 motorized units and only thirteen horse driven apparatus in the department.
At that time there were fourteen stations in the city manned by paid firemen while in the exterior districts of Vienna there were forty-five volunteer Fire Departments with more than 1,500 men, provided in the main, with horse-driven apparatus.
Modern Apparatus Purchased
In 1924, Branddirektor Ing. Anton Wagner was appointed Chief of the Fire Department. He immediately inaugurated a program of modernization—to replace the old electric-driven and horse-driven apparatus by motorized units, to abolish the volunteer fire companies in the suburbs, and to install a modern fire alarm system.
Only the steamers have been done away with, while the electrically driven apparatus has been replaced by modern apparatus. Fifty pieces were converted and 130 modern units were purchased. By the end of 1930 there were 183 motorized units of which forty were pumpers.
At present there are but seven volunteer fire companies in rural residential districts and they receive their orders from Headquarters.
The number of Fire Department stations have increased. There are now one Headquarters Building, six chief stations and twenty-five smaller fire stations in the city.
There are sixty men on duty at all times in the Headquarters Building, twenty-two in the chief stations and eleven men in the smaller houses. The two-platoon plan was established during the period of 1919-20.

cars, two city service trucks, two chemical engines which have been replaced by booster tank equipped apparatus, two Magirus and Metz 111-foot aerial ladders, six pumpers, besides special equipment. Every chief station has one officers' car, one chemical or booster-tank car, one city service truck, one Magirus aerial ladder, one pumper and some special appliances. The smaller stations have a chemical car or booster tank car besides a motorized pumper. A few of the smaller stations have three pieces of apparatus, an aerial ladder with chemical engine, a city service truck and a pumper.
The running card is so arranged that for every alarm from the interior section there must respond, at least, one officers' car equipped with rescue appliances and carrying hose, the district officer, the captain and eight firemen; one city service car; one chemical car or a car with a booster tank; one aerial ladder truck and the pumper of the nearest station. Upper—In each of the thirty-two fire stations of Greater Vienna, there is a gasoline pumper of the type illustrated capable of delivering 110 g.p.m. at about 60 pounds pressure. The pump is in front of the radiator. Center—Special emergency car with an electric generator and cable reel for the use of the two small "Diving Pumps" located at the rear of the car. Lower—Special rescue car that is used for water accidents.
or a booster tank car is despatched. The smaller emergency work is performed by a city service truck which carries all emergency tools and appliances. Where human life is in danger as at a building that has been wrecked by an explosion, the officers' car of the nearest chief station must also answer the call. However, in many of these cases, a special call is sent to headquarters for emergency trucks, rescue wagons or wrecking apparatus.
There is also the "Volunteer Ambulance Society/' which is required to answer such alarms. It has ambulance cars with medical equipment and manned by full paid surgeons. The fire alarm headquarters is located on the second floor of the central fire station and during 1927-9 it was provided with all the instruments found in American fire alarm central stations. There are circuits for thirty-three fire stations and for more than one thousand street fire alarm boxes. As most of the alarms are transmitted by telephone, the central station is able to send the alarm upon tapper circuits. On the wall of the fire alarm headquarters and in the office of Chief Wagner are large maps on which electric lights are placed wherever there is a fire station. These lamps light to show which of the companies are responding՝. Besides the tapper and box circuits, the department has a special telegraph service with stations in each fire house, and a station high up in the 360-foot bell tower of St. Stephan's Cathedral. In this cathedral, night and day, there is a fireman watching for fires. This custom has been handed down from the time the Turks laid siege to Vienna in 1529 and in 1683. The Morse telegraph keys are to be replaced by electrically operated typewriters as soon as funds are available. Public and private fire alarm boxes have been placed in department stores, factories and so forth, but in Central Europe such boxes are very little used. Most of the messages are transmitted by telephone.
The appliances used in the Vienna Fire Department are different from American practice. There is only a single narrow hose which, however, is able to withstand very high pressures from the pumpers. The centrifugal pumps of the Vienna gasoline operated pumpers are located in front of the motor's radiator, similar to the well known Ahrens-Fox engine in the United States. The chemical apparatus and booster tanks have a capacity of about 125 gallons which is usually sufficient for the ordinary fires. The booster pumps are not operated by the traction motor but by a special 20-30 horsepower motor. These special booster pumps may be carried by four or even two men and placed near wells in the rural sections or wherever water can be found.
The Vienna Fire Department has fourteen special small size pumps, two electrically operated and twelve operated by gasoline motors. Where water is to be drafted from great depths, these pumps are lowered into the water. The seven volunteer companies are equipped with these special motor pumpers as they are ideal for rural service in the towns and villages outside of the city.
In the oldest section of the city, cellars are often two to five floors deep. Smoky cellar fires are therefore of great danger to the firemen and cause considerable work.
Therefore, in addition to the assortment of oxygen helmets and filter masks, the department has a special rescue truck equipped with two large air tanks which are able to supply air to five or six smoke-helmet air lines. Every man in the department, from the Chief down, has a smoke mask of his own.
A special school is established in the two-floor deep cellar of the Central Fire Station. Here dense, smoky fires are started so that the firemen ma}՛ become experienced in fighting the smoky blazes. Each of the thirty-two fire stations has its own drill tower so that pompier ladder work, extension ladder drills and other evolutions may be followed every day.
The department is also provided with portable motor-propelled smoke ejectors to be carried directly into the cellars. Electric power for the motors is furnished by cables stretched to the generator on the truck. The generator is also used to supply current for searchlights, flood lights and projectors.
Besides the special appliances described there are emergency trucks for brush and forest fires, provided with all sorts of tools and designed for fighting fires remote from a good supply of water; rescue cars equipped with boats for saving life in water accidents; wrecking wagons equipped with heavy tools; cars with special foam equipment; motorcycles for the chimney sweepers of the department; strong cranes, and appliances for carpenter work.
In four more years the Fire Department of "Der Stadt Wien" will have an anniversary to be proud of. It will be 250 vears old.
