Dear Sir:
On March 31 my Engine Company responded to an alarm for a fire in a garage.   An automobile was suspended over an open pit, both afire.   While attempting to extinguish this fire, the pit flashed into flames from ruptured gas lines.   With flames roaring out on all sides, I was trapped.   In order to get out I had to run through it.   My head, face, and hands suffered severe
burns.
Thanks to the Globe coat I was wearing, the rest of my body received no burns at all.   Even the collar protected my neck and throat.   The coat showed no effect of the heat and flames and is ready for continual use.
The rest of the men in my station agree thatGlobe Coats are the best available.   Protection from heat and flames, warmth while working in freezing weather, and long durable wear are the reasons why we all own Globe Coats.   My own was five years old when this happened and I realized
its worth.

"Alarm No. 3—January 23, 1963, Residence, Old Dutch Road.
Time received: 1/55 p.m., Telephone.
Temperature: 2 degrees. Winds: N.N.W. 'at 3-5 MPH.
Road condition: Very slippery, unimproved. Three firemen's cars stuck enroute. The angle of approach to Old Dutch Rd., required stopping and maneuvering of equipment to make turn, then upgrade to another sharp bend. No sanding had been done. Some drifts on Main Street Extension. Old Dutch Road impassable South of fire scene, approach could be made from one direction only.
Scene on arrival: Chief's car proceeded immediately to fire scene and noted smoke issuing from under eaves on North wall (Photo A), adjoining chimney. House was filling with smoke and open flame was visible in living room behind built-in book case adjoining fireplace. Three "All Use" American LaFrance 10 Ib. Dry Chemical Extinguishers, carried in Chief's car were carried in and first attack was made on fire visible in Living Room using one of these units. The second was carried to basement and attack was made on fire from below (Photo C). The fire had vented to the outside (Photo B), just above the foundation and the contents of the third unit were directed into the

Apparatus was on the way promptly but road conditions precluded normal travel. The "All Use" Dry Chemical extinguishers knocked the fire down quickly and only one Booster Line was required for overhaul, to insure that no smolder or sparks existed in the heavier structural members and the sill above the foundation. No water got into the house, no water damage.
Point of origin appeared to be in the sill and beams adjacent to and below the fire place located in the living room above. The fire appears to have smoldered there for some time, from the appearance of deep char. Once it had vented to the outdoors it began to spread rapidly. Owner had detected smoke around noon and believed it was caused by the fireplace. It was only when smoke began to issue from behind the book case, under pressure, that she became concerned. Its appearance was accompanied by visible fire at that time.
As soon as apparatus arrived the building was laddered and lines laid in. The wall in an upstairs bedroom contained considerable heat for a time and precautions were taken to prevent a re-kindle at that point.
I am convinced that were it not for the fact that we had sufficient "All-Use" Dry Chemical on the scene at the critical time, the damage would have greatly exceeded the insurance adjuster's estimate of $350.00. These units should be carried on first in vehicle, to enable a quick attack or holding operation, while apparatus is enroute or setting up. The owners and insurance adjuster were enthusiastic over the quick stops and the efficiency of the Department, the use of this new type extinguisher and lack of water damage. Not over 10 gallons of water was applied to the above fire during overhaul and no water was required for control."
NOTE: The above is not an isolated case. In addition to the call above, Chief Lewis has used "All-Use" extinguishers in two subsequent fires with similar effectiveness.
